2nd Class Postage Stamps
The United States Postal Service offers a number of flat rate boxes that may help online stores reduce shipping costs while improving shoppers' buying experience. ATM's with stamps are a relatively new development. While today, many ATM's still don't have the capacity to sell stamps, newer models do have this technology. Slowly these newer models are replacing the old and eventually you'll be able to purchase them on just about every street corner. This is an exciting development we're following closely. Unfortunately, since most ATM's still don't work this way, we suggest sticking with a more traditional store. This way you won't waste your precious time.
The downsides? First is price - you won't pay $9.80 for a book, mostly because you'll have to pay shipping. As far as I can tell, postage is not available for Prime free shipping. Just now I looked at a postage stamp sale on Amazon - the cost was $12.99 for a book of limited edition bird stamps, plus $4 shipping. You also have to buy stamps either by the book or by the 100-sheet, though on the day I visited, I couldn't find a single sheet for sale.
Mail with typed addresses goes to a Multiline Optical Character Reader (MLOCR) which reads the ZIP Code and address information and prints the appropriate bar code onto the envelope. Mail (actually the scanned image of the mail) with handwritten addresses (and machine-printed ones that are not easily recognized) goes to the Remote Bar Coding System It also corrects spelling errors and, where there is an error, omission, or conflict in the written address, identifies the most likely correct address.

Something that I don't think the article mentioned is the new Regional Rate boxes. Since the beginning of the year, these have saved us quite a bit in shipping (along with the padded flat rate envelopes). USPS is definitely the most affordable shipping option for our business. I would love to be able to offer free shipping to my customers but we're not quite there yet.
